Every day of my working life I watch kids get rewarded for fast right answers. Nobody ever gets a grade for asking a beautiful question. You put your finger on something I see in the hallways every single day.

Here is what your closing line stirred up for me. The first question in the Bible was not asked by a man. God asked it. Where are you. He was not looking for information. He knew exactly where Adam was standing. He was looking for Adam. There is a difference between a question that wants an answer and a question that wants you. The rabbis hear that in the Hebrew word itself, Ayeka (אַיֶּכָּה), a question aimed at a soul in hiding.

So I think you are onto something bigger than thinking skills. Anyone learning to ask real questions, even of a machine, may be practicing for the oldest conversation there is.

When my students come back in August, I want to ask at least one question that is meant to find somebody. That is your doing, Sean.
